ME

Kenyan, studied in Malaysia, currently living in Abu dabhi . My undergraduate studies in Architecture have equipped me with creativity, conceptual design skills, planning skills, skills necessary for effective construction in the continuously changing environment . I am now seeking to expand my knowledge and skills, I am a motivated multi cultured individual who is ready to open up to opportunities in the Architectural design world . I hope that together we can make a difference socially, economically and environmentally.

Architecture Design Studio 1

This module is an introduction to architectural design, This preliminary design module aims to present and explore design through the expression of the individual perception of ‘self’ and the body. we went through a series of projects to build this skill and to make us understand more about the self.

Project 1:
Self-Expression through Object
this first project is an individual project, that helped us in understanding about our individual self through a series of creative ways we went through.
we first had to make a portrait representing our self.

we later had to explore further on what my personality is through searching pictures that reflect who we are.

I then proceed to select a medium of choice in which to communicate and represent my abstracted sense of self. After exploring myself, i realized i had one dominant personality that is responsible in making my other small personality traits be expressed. Only words can do justice in showing, this one personality, which makes me what I am. Therefor i wrote a poem, about my life, what i have done in the past, my dreams for the future, my feelings in the present.
After a successful completion of this project, i learnt more about myself and what i am, and also different ways of mediums that can be used in presenting, reflecting different ideas.

Project 2
Self-Expression through Architectural Space
This project's aim is to expand on the interpretation of the self, and to be expressed spatially. we first explored the notions of scale and proportion in a series of in class exercises were we explored the human form (anthropometry). we were also introduced to basic design principles such as the rudimentary ways in which to order and organize spaces and forms. we later had to come up with a group 1:1 scaled installation.

Final 1:1 scaled installation.
after a successful completion of this project i was able to identify and articulate basic design principles in space and form, able to also distinguish the role of scale and proportion in the relationship between the human body and a designed space.

project 3:
Space for the Self
In this project , i was required to design a hideout space for myself  by ‘grafting’ or engaging it to the walls of an imagined “city” on an empty abandoned plot. The design should be inspired by your personal understanding and perception of a hideout that best fits your individuality.
the movie i chose was "The fifth element".
we first had to study the site we chose to build our hideout. and make a site model.

Group site model.

After a successful completion of this project, i developed an ability to create and develop a conceptual narrative, and also develop an understanding and awareness of the scale and proportion of the human body. and also explored how human anthropometry and ergonomics relate to and inform space.

After a successful completion of this module, i am now able to generate design concept through the process of exploring various sources and abstracting ideas, and also appreciate the idea of design process involving sketching and model-making as tools mportant in developing a design, I am also able to relate the idea of the individual ‘self’ and the body to space and its experiential qualities.  Most importantly produce legible orthogonal drawings and architectural models to visualize and communicate final design.
