ME

Kenyan, studied in Malaysia, currently living in Abu dabhi . My undergraduate studies in Architecture have equipped me with creativity, conceptual design skills, planning skills, skills necessary for effective construction in the continuously changing environment . I am now seeking to expand my knowledge and skills, I am a motivated multi cultured individual who is ready to open up to opportunities in the Architectural design world . I hope that together we can make a difference socially, economically and environmentally.

Building Materials

In this module we went through a series of lectures, tutorials and assignments throughout the semester. we studied different types of building materials, from there textures to their properties and when and where to use these materials.

Exercise
MY HOME, MY SPACE.

This exercise is designed as an introduction to building materials that are commonly used in the local construction industry.I was required to
identify five(5) materials that are being used in any space in your HOME.  I was then required to do a catalog of these materials and describe them through photographs, sketches and some descriptions.

After a successful completion of this assignment, i am was able to recognize different types of materials and their properties.

Project 1
Materiality of SPACE: An experiential exploration.
Task A:
in groups of 5, we were to select a commercial / residential building (a fun, creative space) which allow us to experience and explore most of the building materials covered in the module.
The building we chose was a commercial building in a residential area, it was a bistro restaurant called THE HILL.

Material mood board.

Task B:
The individual part, I was to research on experiential analysis of the material and how it affects the space.
My board.

After a successful completion of this project, i understood the choices that the designers have to make in choosing the building materials based on the properties of materials and how they affect the space. and also learnt different types of materials that are being used in the current construction practice.

Project 2
Integration
In this assignment we focused on the challenging task of selecting materials for a design project in our Architecture Design Studio 1 final project of a hideout space, responding to several issues such as site context- material compatibility with climatic, cultural, and aesthetic conditions, applicability of material to occupancy, size of building, including durability and structural requirements, environmental impact building materials and recycling issues.

After a successful completion of this project i developed an Understanding of affects of building materials on building and environment, Understanding of compatibility of proposed material to occupancy, concept and aesthetics.

Apart from these projects and assignment i also learnt a lot through a series of lectures throughout the semester, it was an interesting module and hope to learn more ahead.
