ME

Kenyan, studied in Malaysia, currently living in Abu dabhi . My undergraduate studies in Architecture have equipped me with creativity, conceptual design skills, planning skills, skills necessary for effective construction in the continuously changing environment . I am now seeking to expand my knowledge and skills, I am a motivated multi cultured individual who is ready to open up to opportunities in the Architectural design world . I hope that together we can make a difference socially, economically and environmentally.

Architecture theories and urbanisim

The subject offers a thematic inquiry into architectural theory in the broader context of philosophical schools of thought and cultural and social conditions, which include modernism, postmodernism, phenomenology, semiotics, post-structuralism, and deconstruction.

We went through a series of lectures, and each lecture had a synopsis review, whereby in groups of 4 students, we are to read a paper given by the lecturer, and write a synopsis and later present it to the class.
we went through four papers for synopsis review and each based on different main topic,

Synopsis 1:
The first synopsis review is on the theme Urbanism
This synopsis, involves an understanding on how people live and interact in cities from different perspectives.

Synopsis 2:
This was based on the topic Modernism

Synopsis 3:
The writing we had to review was based on the topic Post modernism.

Synopsis 4:
This was the final paper we had to review, which was based on the topic Semiotic.

PROJECT
THEORIZING ARCHITECTURE (Individual)
We were required to present an in-depth and analytical research study on the designated topic. We were to review selected architect, which I chose Rem Koolhas and elaborate his theory in architecture and urbanism on the regional context, by using critical examples.

PART I:
Analysing “Through the eyes” of an architect/urban designer/ theoretician
This part asks us to select a defined area of your hometown, which i chose the Putrajaya area and see it “through the eyes” of one architect, urban designer or theoretician that was discussed in the lecture series, which in my case decided to study Rem koolhas. We were asked to apply or translate design theories and historic urban design approaches onto this area. Imagine how the architect or urban designer may have analysed and interpreted in this chosen area.
below is the link to my essay and graphical analysis.
500 word essay

PART II:
ANALYZING AND THEORIZING ARCHITECTURE
of the project emphasises architecture is like language with vocabulary, grammatical structure; both physical and intellectual. Through certain arrangement, it carries messages and communicates meanings. Nevertheless, in order to understand architecture, one must be aware of the conditions within which they are employed.
we were to select a particular building within the area. You are to studied on impact of external factors on architecture (emphasize on how the architect had responded to the factors in realizing their theoretical intention)
a) External contributing factors (min 3)
b) Analysis diagrams (plan, section, elevation)
c) To theorize architecture based on analysis of self & architecture
Below is my final written essay of 2000 words.

After a successful completion of this project I am now able to;
.Analyse architecture and urban forms in relation to relevant architectural theories
.Analyse and critique the relationship between architecture and its social, cultural and intellectual context
.Produce, orally and in writing, a critical interpretation of architecture and urbanism in relation to relevant theories within the contemporary discourse of architecture

This module after a successful completion, taught me to:
. Describe the theoretical issues related to design through study of architecture and urbanism and its related studies
. Identify the different architectural theories which inform the development of architecture and urban forms
. Analyze and critique the relationship between architecture and its social, cultural, and intellectual context
. Analyze architecture and urban forms in relation to relevant architectural theories
. Produce, orally and in writing, a critical interpretation of architecture and urbanism in relation to relevant theories within the contemporary discourse of architecture.
