ME

Kenyan, studied in Malaysia, currently living in Abu dabhi . My undergraduate studies in Architecture have equipped me with creativity, conceptual design skills, planning skills, skills necessary for effective construction in the continuously changing environment . I am now seeking to expand my knowledge and skills, I am a motivated multi cultured individual who is ready to open up to opportunities in the Architectural design world . I hope that together we can make a difference socially, economically and environmentally.

Architecture culture and history 1

This module introduced us to the basic architectural theory through a consideration of intentions, concepts, patterns, architectural language and contextual relationships, and also make us examine architecture history through a chronological survey of the developments of western architecture from the beginning of time to the enlightenment, looking at the intellectual, aesthetic, technological, political and economical factors which have influenced architectural design, we learnt all these in a series if lectures through out the semester. but we also learnt more about this in a series of projects we did.

We first had to choose a building from a particular era, so my group mates and I, chose the Pazzi Chapel in Florence, Italy which was built in the early renaissance.

The essay.
we were to research and write an essay of our chosen building. we had to highlight specific topics like
  •   Who is the architect?
  •   Where and when was the building built?
  •   What is the form, or shape of the building?
  •   What is the function or purpose of the building?
  •   What materials / methods are used for construction?
  •   What makes your building historically significant / meaningful?
  •   How does the building reflect the spirit of the time and place for which it was built?

    The presentation board
I was suppose to research more and should find as much information on my assigned building whch was the Pazzi chapel as possible, and provide an in-depth analysis of the project,
    1. Analysis should include:
      •   Concept analysis (building concept and/or architect concepts)
      •   Building massing analysis (structure, geometry)
      •   Circulation Analysis
      •   Spatial Organization analysis (public vs. private, symmetry & balance,
Unit to whole,Repetitive to unique, Additive and subtractive, Hierarchy)
      •   Building section analysis.

    The group model
We were to create a model to communicate our analysis, our model can be either of the entire structure, or of a portion of the project that is of high significance.Models should communicate the important structure, components, ideas and concepts of your precedent.
The model is 30 cm x 30 cm in dimension with 10 cm depth. Material: Balsa timber.

    The Pazzi chapel

After a successful completion of the projects and lectures through out this semester, I am now able to recognize and recall appropriate verbal architectural vocabulary, able to pick out and identify the sequence of historical periods when represented architecturally, compare the sequence of historical periods architecturally.
