ME

Kenyan, studied in Malaysia, currently living in Abu dabhi . My undergraduate studies in Architecture have equipped me with creativity, conceptual design skills, planning skills, skills necessary for effective construction in the continuously changing environment . I am now seeking to expand my knowledge and skills, I am a motivated multi cultured individual who is ready to open up to opportunities in the Architectural design world . I hope that together we can make a difference socially, economically and environmentally.

Architecture design studio 2

This module is the continuation of the first design module which is architecture design studio 1, where we learnt about the basic design principles. however in this second module not only did we apply what we learnt in the first studio but also learn about design for a user, that is understanding the user and context. we went through a series of projects, mini assignments and research for inspiration, to explore and develop this skill of designing for a user.

Project 1:
after a lecture of past and present architects, and their work, we were given in groups a name of an architect. we had to study the architect from his biography to his work, and develop a full of understanding of the architect. later we had to make a video of what we learnt about him.
The architect my group members and I had to study was Sou Fujimoto. Below is the link to the video we made about his life and work.

Sou fujimoto's documentary

later we had to pick one of his projects, and explain Sou Fujimoto's design principles which he uses in designing his projects, in that building. My group member's and I chose to study Sou Fujimoto's Tokyo Apartment Design and redraw it. Below is the slide show of our drawings of the Tokyo Apartment.

The last part of this project, was to make conceptual models of Sou Fujimoto's design concept.

After a successful completion of this project we fully understood the importance of concepts and how and when to apply them, and also learned how to study the user when designing. I personally deeply enjoyed this project and learnt a lot, from team work to thinking out of the box, and paying attention to details, and everything is important in designing.

For  the 2nd and final project we have to design for a specific site, and in our case we have to design in a site in pentai kerachut. As a class we visited the site, and studied thoroughly the site, and later compiled our research in a report, which you can check it out in the link below.

Project 2:
In this project, a group of 2 members were to design a watching tower, for the site in pen tai keratchut, and should use the site analysis study to guide us in the design process.
My group mate and I decided to design a Bird watching tower, as the area is known for the special migration of birds to and fro, as there is a mangrove forest, sea and lake in this site.
After a series of design process, we finally designed a bird watching tower which is shown below.

Below is our presentation link.

Final project
In the final assignment of the module, we had to design a retreat house of the user of the tower individually, in my case, I had to design a retreat house for a professional bird watcher. I had to not only understand vividly the site, but also understand the user as well, which in my case study from the needs to behavior of the professional bird watcher. Later i went through a series of design process to finally come up with a  suitable final design.
Below is my presentation board.

After a successful completion of all the projects and assignments, through out the module , I fully understood vividly the importance of understanding the user before designing. and also to pay attention to small details when designing, especially when studying the site.
